In the digital age of the “selfie” and social media, self-reflection can turn into self-obsession at the push of a button. Shapiro & Smith Dance’s newest work, “Narcissus” takes audiences down a path of mirrors where we see how our preoccupation with image might distort how we see ourselves and how we think others see us.

The evening will also include a reprise of three Shapiro & Smith Dance favorites, “Jack,” “Dance with Two Army Blankets” and “What Dark / Falling into Light.”

Join us for a discussion with the artists following the April 18th performance as part of The Cowles Center's Meet the Company: Talk-Back Series.

This project is funded with the generous support of The National Endowment for the Arts, Target Foundation, McKnight Foundation and The Metropolitan Regional Arts Council.

Joanie Smith is a fiscal year 2012 recipient of an Artist Initiative grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. This activity is funded, in part, by the Minnesota State Legislature from the State's arts and cultural heritage fund with money from the vote of the people of Minnesota on November 4, 2008.
