Joanie Smith is a fiscal year 2015 recipient of an Artist Initiative grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. Join us on March 25-26, 2016 at the The Cowles Center when we premiere what we're creating in rehearsals now, "Hands." We're reconstructing the crowd favorite "Bolero" on an all-male cast. And we're also excited to welcome Sally Rousse as a guest artist featured in "Wee Violence," a piece that was originally a solo for Joanie.

We spent a week out at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Penn. setting our classic work "To Have & To Hold." Thanks Jeffery Peterson for bringing us out to such beautiful country and with such talented dancers.

MSAB awarded Shapiro & Smith an
Arts Tour Minnesota grant.

We can't wait to hit the road taking our works to greater Minnesota.

Northern Spark -- Overnight June 13-14, we performed eight 30-minute shows to more than 400 people in our first Northern Spark experience.. And each audience-participation-dependent show was different. What an emotionally-fulfilling, physically-draining, and artistically-challenging experience! Tofte Lake Center  is a retreat for artists on the edge of the Boundry Waters near Ely, Minn.  We spent a week in July in residency where we dug deep into the the work we hope to premiere in Spring 2016.
