Work The Company Contact

Next Steps

Dancing with breathtaking physicality and emotional depth, Shapiro & Smith Dance has earned an international reputation for virtuosity, substance, craft and pure abandon.

What Dark/Falling Into Light
(premiere: Dance Theater Workshop, 1996) is inspired by the Holocaust and the marginalization of people based on creed or ethnicity. The breathtaking work reacts to and investigates our response to the atrocity, and delves into the emotions kindled by our exploration of “Why?”

Miniatures is an absurd look at relationships that will ultimately be encapsulated in a tiny locket that hangs around the neck. Through projections and multi-media, the thoughts of each character are revealed while dance relationships come alive through Shapiro & Smith Dance’s vigorous athleticism and skillful technique.

A final evening highlight is the debut of Proof, a quartet about love and loss by enterprising company member Maggie Bergeron.
